We stopped by Brake Burger Garage in Lake Wales and were not disappointed! It’s a cute place to grab a quick, delicious bite with the brand-new Brake Burger Beer Garden outside.

When you enter this converted 1950s gas station, it feels like you are stepping into a car collector’s garage. Hubcaps, car grills, license plates and vintage signs adorn the walls and set the tone for this casual eatery.
We placed our orders at the counter with a very friendly employee who answered all of our questions and then grabbed a soda from the fountain machine. We were so excited to find pellet ice (iykyk)! It’s the little things in life, right?

Our food arrived quickly, and we dove right in. We ordered the chicken finger appetizer (four small tenders for $5), and they were delicious! Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. We tried two different burgers – the Deluxe Brake Burger and the Smash Burger. The Deluxe Brake Burger is a classic cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and “brake sauce.” The burger was cooked flawlessly, and the brake sauce was a surprise hit! It packs more of a punch than your standard ketchup/mayo combo sauce. The Smash Burger was topped with cheese, grilled onions, and brake sauce. It was tasty, but we were a little disappointed that it wasn’t actually smashed- it was a standard burger patty. Still tasty! The waffle fries were salty and quickly devoured- who doesn’t love a waffle fry?!

On our way out (after refilling our pellet ice), we checked out the new Beer Garden addition. It’s a surprisingly large outdoor area with picnic tables, a fire pit, plenty of seating, and a bar to easily order cold beers and food. You can even order food from Brake Burger’s sister restaurants, Locorrito (tacos and burritos) or Secret Slice Brick Oven Pizza, and have it delivered to you at the Beer Garden. They’ve got a full lineup of entertainment for the Beer Garden, including live music on Friday nights, Karaoke on Saturdays, Bingo or Trivia on Thursdays, and Koozie Club on Wednesdays and Sundays. Koozie Club allows you to get happy hour pricing when you bring your Brake Burger koozie with you. Sounds like a fun club to join.
Brake Burger is a great, family-friendly addition to the Lake Wales food scene and is definitely worth visiting more than once.
